Bottle Presentation: A classy, attractive label, which features fountain pen ink, a nice touch in our book
Appearance: Pale ruby
Nose: Clean, medium intensity nose, with notes of red cherry, strawberry, raspberry, iron, white pepper, bay leaf, and a touch of barnyard.
Palate: Dry, with a medium body, high acidity, and medium, drying tannins. Flavours included sour cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, dry wood, slate, leather, and blackcurrant leaf.
Finish: A long, pleasant finish with enduring sour red fruit and slate notes.
Overall Impressions: We’d consider this a good example of what Moulin-à-Vent has to offer. As expected, it delivered on the red fruit notes, as well as the medium body and high acidity. Although not overly complex, it had good balance and length. It paired nicely with grilled pork, although it turned somewhat bitter with anything remotely sweet. We could see this red pairing beautifully with seasoned poultry, quiche Lorraine, and aged cheddar. At a hair under $20 CAD, it represents good value for the money.
