Wine Review – 2014 Vérité Viognier

2014 Vérité Viognier Wine BottlePaired surprisingly well with a summer BBQ…

Name: Vérité Grande Cuvée

Vintage: 2014

Producer: Laurent Miquel

Region/Country: Pays d’Oc, France

Grape Varietal(s): Viognier

Consumed: at home

Recommended By: SAQ selection

Cost: $24.15 (SAQ)

Bottle Presentation: Textured, simple and elegant label, although the top and bottom pieces are at stylistic odds, which detracts from the overall presentation. A magnifying glass might be needed to read the back label.

Appearance: Pale yellow with a tinge of green.

Nose: Lychee and popcorn at first. After a while, floral notes emerged and the lychee seemed to fade.

Taste: Peppery notes come to the fore with undertones of pineapple, popcorn, honey and lemon. Similar to the nose, as the wine opened up, the pepper notes diminished and the lemon notes strengthened.

Finish: Citrus and alcohol lasted a rather long time.

Overall Impression: A layered Viognier, that we would definitely drink again. It paired surprisingly well with a summer BBQ (hamburgers and grilled peaches). When paired with dark chocolate, the lemon notes made their presence known. It’s not far off from a Chardonnay but with a nicer acidity level.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 87/100

Value: 3/5
