Wine Review – 2015 Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer

Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer 2015 Wine BottleA fruity, fragrant, and intense Gewϋrztraminer from Alsace…

This Gewϋrztraminer from Maison Pierre Sparr Successeurs in Alsace, France, a full-bodied, nicely balanced white, offered a concentrated bouquet of tropical and floral notes on the nose and an intense mix of sweet, ripe fruit, honey, lemon rind, as well as a hint of spice in the mouth. In other words, it typified the varietal.

We found it a little overbearing on its own, a question of personal preference more than anything else, but it paired well with a spicy, Thai curry dish. We could see it pairing nicely with other spicy foods, as well as cream-based dishes.

Described as a dry wine, we’d consider it more of an off-dry. At less than $18 CAD, it represented good value for the quality. We look forward to tasting the Réserve version of this wine the next time we order in spicy Asian cuisine.
