Region/Country: Penedès, Spain
Grape Varietal(s): Trempanillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot (proportions unknown)
Consumed: At home with BBQ Filet Mignon on a Friday night (at the end of a long week)
Recommended By: Found it at the SAQ
Cost: 24.45 CAD
Bottle Presentation: Classic, dark label
Appearance: Medium-dark ruby red
Nose: Dark plums, black licorice, leather, earth, cherries
Taste: Tannic, earth, leather, alcohol. Anise and plums came out later with the food
Finish: Strong front end but fell flat. Only the alcohol and tannins endured
Overall Impression: A big wine that needs food and time. It reminded me of several other Spanish wines I’ve had, all of which were good. It paired nicely with the Filet Mignon I had (cooked to perfection on the BBQ, of course). It also paired well with dark chocolate with sea salt. There was no orange tinge around the edges, leading me to believe the wine may need to be cellared longer before enjoying. I am curious to try it in another 5-10 years.
Rating (from 70 to 100): 84/100
