Wine Review – Folonari Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore

Folonari Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2014 Wine BottleBring on the pizza and pasta…

Name: Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore

Vintage: 2014

Producer: Folonari

Region/Country: Veneto, Italy

Grape Varietal(s): Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara

Consumed: Le Vieux Four Manago, Saint-Sauveur

Recommended By: Restaurant server

Cost: $38 at the restaurant (apparently $19.95 at SAQ)

Bottle Presentation: Classic, rich look

Appearance: Medium-dark ruby

Nose: Sour cherries, leather, green pepper

Taste: Sour berries (cherries, blueberries), leather, earth, black pepper

Finish: Leather with a back end of alcohol

Overall Impression: A big Italian wine that paired nicely with the variety of dishes we had. It stood up to the Parmesan fondue and the Arugula salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The sundried tomato-goat cheese pizza rounded the wine to make it quite enjoyable to drink, while the four-cheese pizza rendered the wine more peppery/spicy.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 86/100

Value: 3.5/5
