Wine Review – Hidden Bench 2012 Pinot Noir Felseck

Hidden Bench 2012 Pinot Noir Felseck Vineyard Wine BottleA good example of a Niagara (Ontario) Pinot Noir…

Name: Pinot Noir Felseck Vineyard

Vintage: 2012

Producer: Hidden Bench Vineyards & Winery

Region/Country: Beamsville Bench, Niagara, Ontario, Canada

Grape Varietal(s): Pinot Noir

Consumed: At home on a cool autumn evening

Recommended By: Harald Thiel, proprietor and vigneron

Cost: $38

Bottle Presentation: Distinctive, easy on the eye, and the textured label adds a touch of class. We’re still not sure about the barn, but it’s growing on us.

Appearance: Pale ruby red

Nose: Cherries, grilled meat, leather, red licorice, mint, cinnamon, and a touch of rosemary.

Taste: Dry, high acidity, medium tannins, and light bodied, with notes of sour cherries, earth, and licorice. Some of the bitterness softened as the wine opened.

Finish: Medium, with enduring earthy notes.

Overall Impression: A good Pinot Noir from one of our favourite wineries. Although a little pricey, we enjoyed the offering, pretty much what one would expect from the region.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 85

Value: 2/5
