Wine Review – Humagne Blanc 2013

Humagne blanc 2013 wine bottleUniquely Swiss…

Name: Humagne Blanc

Vintage: 2013

Producer: Robert Gilliard

Region/Country: Valais, Switzerland

Grape Varietal(s): Humagne Blanche

Consumed: At home

Recommended By: The wine store owner in Lausanne

Cost: 30 CAD

Bottle Presentation: Elegant, beautiful bottle and label.

Appearance: Light gold.

Nose: Minerals, flowers, and pears.

Taste: Toastiness, minerals, and flowers, with a nice amount of acidity, despite being aged in barrel. It seemed to open up and soften after an hour, so it is well worth decanting even though it is a white.

Finish: Minerals and flowers, which left an enduring impression.

Overall Impression: An interesting wine with nice amounts of acidity and toastiness. It paired well with chicken, pork sausage, grilled red pepper, and strong cheese, which seems to make it quite versatile, at least in terms of pairings. As I have come to learn, the Humagne Blanche grape is grown mainly in the Valais region of Switzerland.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 84/100

Value: 2.5/5
