Wine Review – Suavia Monte Carbonare 2014

Suavia Monte Carbonare 2014 Wine BottleA balanced, easy-drinking Soave from Northern Italy…

This 2014 Suavia from Soave in Italy, made from 100% Garganega, offered plenty of citrus flavours to complement almond, mineral, and white pepper notes. We particularly enjoyed the hints of spearmint and ginger in the nose, although we found the bitterness in the finish a little off-putting. Light-to-medium bodied, this Soave was nicely balanced, with medium acidity and a smooth mouthfeel.

Although not overly complex, this wine would pair well with an array of dishes, including seafood, risotto, and creamy pastas. We had it with one of our house specialities, risotto with tomatoes, green onions, and a generous chunk of parmesan cheese, and it more than held its own.

We appreciated the short, stubby bottle, as well as the label, which had a playful, childlike feel. We received this wine through the Wine Collective, and at $48 CAD per bottle, we found it expensive, especially knowing we could purchase a number of similar wines for less than half the price. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the opportunity to drink this Suavia and would definitely try another offering from Soave.
