Wine Review – Yangarra Estate GSM 2007

2007 Yangarra Estate GSM Wine BottleWhat you’d expect from a McLaren Vale GSM…

Name: Yangarra Estate GSM, Cadenzia

Vintage: 2007

Producer: Yangarra Estate Vineyard

Region/Country: McLaren Vale, South Australia

Grape Varietal(s): Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre

Consumed: On a Mediterranean cruise

Recommended By: Vintages Wine Bar sommelier on the cruise ship

Cost: $12 USD per glass on the cruise ship (although we found a more recent vintage online for $29.99 USD per bottle)

Bottle Presentation: A clean, simple, and easy-to-read label, although it tends to get lost among the numerous options on the shelf

Appearance: Deep ruby

Nose: Medium-to-pronounced, with dark fruit (blackberries), smoky, and garrigue notes.

Taste: Light-to-medium body, medium tannins, and low-to-medium acidity, with flavours of dark cherry, raspberry, anise, grilled tomatoes, red licorice, earth, and white pepper.

Finish: Medium-to-long, with anise and earth notes.

Overall Impression: A good GSM from McLaren Vale. We appreciated this wine’s complexity and balance, and although somewhat light in body, the array of flavours make it suitable to pair with a number of foods, ranging from grilled meats to strong cheeses.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 89/100

Value: 2.5/5 (based on $29.99 USD per bottle)
