Bottle Presentation: Very classic Italian, reminiscent of Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel.

Appearance: Medium garnet colour.

Nose: Medium nose of black licorice, leather, mocha, sour cherries, grilled meat and vanilla.

Taste: Light-to-medium body, medium-to-high tannins (they were mouth drying), high acidity, with notes of earth, tobacco, black pepper, dark chocolate, and cherry wood.

Finish: Medium finish

Overall Impression: This Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Montemercurio is a classic Old-World style wine, with a nice degree of complexity. Although it felt gritty in the mouth with our sweet potato fries with garlic aioli, it should pair well with cheese or pasta with tomato-based sauce. These would match the various tastes more appropriately.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 88/100
