Wine Review – Stoneboat Vineyards Pinot Noir 2012

Stoneboat Pinot Noir 2012A very good, home grown, Pinot Noir…

Name: Pinot Noir

Vintage: 2012

Producer: Stoneboat Vineyards

Region/Country: Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

Grape Varietal(s): Pinot Noir

Consumed: At home

Recommended By: End of the bin at the LCBO

Cost: $29.95

Bottle Presentation: Simple, unassuming label, which would blend in with many others on the shelf

Appearance: Clear, light, garnet colour

Nose: Clean, medium intensity, with cherry, leather, earth, white pepper, and medicinal notes.

Taste: A dry, light bodied wine, with medium plus acidity and medium-plus tannins. Predominant flavours included sour cherries, earth, black licorice and leather. A tinge of red pepper and raspberries emerged over time.

Finish: Medium-long, with enduring earth and mineral notes.

Overall Impression: A good Pinot Noir from an outstanding region in British Columbia. This light-bodied wine would pair well with a range of foods, including poultry and pork. To our pleasant surprise, it paired well with dark chocolate. We would definitely drink this wine again, perhaps as part of a Pinot Noir tasting. It is quite pleasant now, but we can see it being equally good, if not better, in another two to five years.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 87/100

Value: 3/5
