Wine Review – Tawse Quarry Road Pinot Noir 2011

Tawse Quarry Road Pinot Noir 2011 wine bottleA surprisingly good Pinot Noir…

Name: Quarry Road Pinot Noir

Vintage: 2011

Producer: Tawse

Region/Country: Vinemount Ridge VQA

Grape Varietal(s): Pinot Noir

Consumed: At home

Recommended By: Found it at the LCBO

Cost: 34.95 CAD

Bottle Presentation: Somewhat understated and gets lost among the crowd

Appearance: Light ruby

Nose: sour cherries when you open the bottle, but green vegetables, pepper, and a more subtle dose of leather and cedar emerge over time.

Taste: Sour berries/cherries, leather, and somewhat tannic.

Finish: Sour cherries, tannic, and alcohol.

Overall Impression: A good Pinot Noir, with some complexity, good staying power, and a enjoyable sour finish. It took some time to open, so exercise patience, like most good things. Would pair well with vegetable-based, white meat and/or ham dishes.

Rating (from 70 to 100): 88/100

Value: 2.5/5 (it’s a little expensive)
